FAQs
What is boiler insurance?
Boiler insurance can be taken out to protect you in the case of any issues relating to your boiler or central heating. If you have boiler insurance, it can help you cover associated cost such as call-outs from engineers, labour costs, and the costs of replacement parts needed for repairs.
Who is boiler insurance for?
Homeowners should have some sort of insurance in place for their boiler or heating system; however, before taking out specific boiler insurance, you should always check if your boiler is included in your home insurance as it may already be covered.
For renters, boiler insurance is not necessary for you to organise – this is something that is the responsibility of your landlord. You can contact your landlord to find out what happens in the case of a boiler issue or emergency.
What are the different types of boiler insurance?
There are two main types of boiler insurance: full central heating cover and boiler breakdown cover. The breakdown cover only protects the boiler and its controls in the case of an emergency whereas the central heating breakdown insurance covers everything connected to the central heating system i.e. the boiler, the plumbing, the radiators. What type of boilers can be insured?
Whatever the boiler type – gas, combi, electric, oil-powered – we can find a boiler insurance quote for you.
Can you get boiler insurance on an old boiler?
It can be difficult to insure older boilers and heating systems as they may not meet the requirements of the insurance providers including emissions and energy efficiency standards or performance standards. Older boilers usually come with higher premiums or, in some cases, may not be able to get cover at all.
What happens if your boiler cannot be covered?
If your boiler is too old to be insured, it means that if an issue arises you will likely have to pay a large amount to fix it. Or, if it is beyond repair, you will need to pay for any damaged caused. In this case, it is likely you may need to find a new boiler and then apply for insurance.
